Small Wonders 2025 features small format textile art from the members of the Surface Design Association British Columbia and Yukon regions. The intention of the exhibit is to inspire conversations and new directions while raising the visibility of small textile artworks.

  CALL FOR ENTRY

Surface Design Association members living on Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands (VISDA) invite SDA members throughout British Columbia and the Yukon regions working in small format, to submit up to three submissions of artwork for Small Wonders 2025 which will be held this year in the ANNEX Gallery at the Cowichan Community Centre in Duncan, British Columbia.

This exhibition is non-juried and has no theme except that the artwork must be  current, fit within the small size requirement, highlight fibre and/or textile art techniques, and have a sale price of $300 or less.

Current Threads 2025 is a separate call. British Columbia and Yukon region members are also invited to participate in our Current Threads Exhibit which will run at the same time as Small Wonders and will be held in the MAIN Gallery at the Cowichan Community Centre. Artist Eligibility

- Open to SDA members who live in British Columbia or Yukon. To learn more about the SDA CLICK HERE

- SDA membership must be current and in good standing

Fee

- A $10 entry fee per artwork submission (up to 3 submissions) is required at the time of your online submission

- Entry fee is non refundable

Submissions

- Maximum three artworks per artist

- All submissions must be made via the ArtCall website

- Please submit early, you can edit your submission up until end date!

Sales

- Sales will be subject to a 20% gallery commission

- Works for sale are encouraged but not required

Artwork Qualifications

- Sale price must be $300 or less

- Artwork must have been completed on or after June 1, 2022

- Artworks previously exhibited at a VISDA exhibition or at the Cowichan Community Centre are not eligible

- Product art and work created in workshops or classes is not eligible for this exhibit

- Artwork must be ready to hang. CONTACT us if your work requires any special installation or display considerations

Artist Requirements

- Artists are responsible for delivering their artwork

- When possible, volunteer to sit the gallery (sign up available April 2025)

- Artist statement about your artwork (100-150 words/500-750 characters)

- Artist biography (100-150 words/500-750 characters)

- 1 headshot of the artist

- 2 photos of each piece of artwork (entire work plus a detail)

- There are specific requirements regarding the types of supports, hanging hardware and labels which must be used on your artwork, for this information please refer to the DISPLAY REQUIREMENTS page

- All artists must abide by the VISDA Exhibition Guidelines (see terms & conditions) and all other agreements, requirements, terms or conditions stated within this call

  ARTWORK DIMENSIONS

2-Dimensional Work

- Wall hung pieces, max installed 14” wide

- Diptychs / triptychs considered one piece

3-Dimensional Work

- Wall mounted, max installed 14” wide

- Displayed on plinth, entire work must fit within a 12” wide x 12” deep footprint

  PHOTO REQUIREMENTS

One Artist Headshot

- One headshot of the artist

- Photo must be at least 1920 pixels on the longest side

- JPG format only

- Maximum file size per photo is 4MB

Two Photos of each Artwork

- One photo of the entire artwork including all outside edges

- One photo highlighting a detailed view of the artwork

- Photos must be at least 1920 pixels on the longest side

- JPG format only

- Maximum file size per photo is 4MB
