Arts Council reserve the right to refuse to accept or
display artwork that does not follow the eligibility
requirements and the VISDA Exhibition Guidelines.
VISDA Exhibition Guidelines
Participating Artist’s Responsibilities:
1. Must be a current member of the Surface Design Association Current Threads exhibitions and all other VISDA-organised exhibitions are also open to all SDA BC and Yukon members.
2. Each artwork may be shown only once in a VISDA exhibition
3. It is of utmost importance the highest level of craftsmanship is maintained in all work entered in exhibitions
4. Responds to a call for entry by submitting their name and non-refundable entry fee via an online registration system
5. Commits to the following when registering for an exhibition:
1. Serves on the exhibition subcommittees
2. Fulfills time requirements set by the gallery and the Exhibition Committee, for sitting the show if required.
3. Contributes to the costs and labour of an opening/reception.
4. Meets all deadlines set by the Exhibition Committee.
6. Provides all of the information required by the Exhibition Committee and gallery, for each one of their artworks, by the specified deadline.
7. Artwork must adhere to requirements specific to the exhibition (e.g., size, dimensions, hanging device, theme, number of submissions, and fit within allocated linear inches.)
8. Makes arrangements to have their artwork dropped off and picked up from the gallery on the day and within the period specified.
9. Provides feedback on the exhibition to the Exhibition Committee
10. Finances and Sales
1. Registration fees are non-refundable
2. Any sale related to their artwork being seen in the exhibition, even after the exhibition has closed, the artist will pay the stated commission to the gallery concerned as stated in the gallery's contract.
3. Sold artwork is delivered to the buyer or arrangements are made as appropriate for that gallery
4. VISDA exhibitions can make a profit to provide deposits for future exhibition bookings and upfront expenses.
11. Artwork
1. Must be original and produced by the artist(s) submitting it.
2. Collaborative work must be clearly identified as such on the label.
3. Must be completed within the last three years.
4. Must not be shown in any previous VISDA exhibitions,except those designated as travelling exhibitions
5. Must remain on display for the duration of the show.
6. If the show travels to more than one venue all work must go with the show. Any sold works would be delivered at the end of the run. The buyer puts a deposit down (say 50%) when they buy it and pays the rest at the end of the run.
7. Images of any work may be used for publicity and signed permission may be required.
